2010, the year of the virus. Or was it? It seems like now a days, the year of the virus is every year, and it just keeps getting worse. Over the past couple of years, the main strings of viruses going around people's computers have been the infamous fake antivirus viruses.
These viruses will display messages on your computer, telling you that you have a virus, and asking you to take some kind of action to remove them. Shortly after, the program normally prompts you to input your credit card information, which obviously is a total scam.
Security tools like Malware Bytes and SuperAntiSpyware have been known to seek out and find these vicious viruses and neutralize them where they stand but lately, with the spread of newer more effective viruses, those two programs just aren't enough anymore which is why you need the entire shebang, the whole arsenal.
First thing is first, download the 2011 version of the Kaspersky Virus Removal tool (Google Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool 2011). After downloading and installing the tool, look through the settings and try to find where you can select which places on your computer to scan. Ensure that "computer" is checked so that the tool scans your entire machine.
Let it run through its procedures. It will ask you to delete and quarantine bad files as it finds them. Do so. Once the program is finished scanning and deleting, it may ask you to restart your computer. Do so.
But is that it? Well, it seems that even Kaspersky isn't finding everything so I would highly suggest firing off a couple of other highly effective tools. Now that you've most likely gotten the actual viruses off of your machine, you may still have some ad or spyware running around. Malware bytes is a great program for that, which you can find here.
Go through the scan process on Malware bytes and follow the instructions it gives you. After the scan is complete, and it's removed the leftover malicious or adware programs, another supplementary scan with Kaspersky and Malware bytes is not a bad idea. You may even want to bring in the emperor of virus removal tools called Combo Fix, found here.
Combo fix is relatively self explanatory and will basically run on its own after you execute it. If it asks you to download something from the web, follow its instructions and let it roll. If there is any way for you to disable your current antivirus software (Norton, Mcafee or others), do so, because Combo fix will ask you to do that so it can run its scans without being interrupted.
Computer viruses in 2011 have gotten more sophisticated than ever before and they demand that you attack them from every angle, with the best tools. Hope this article was helpful!
