The Dump and Chase: Marty Turco can’t quit you, NHL

While Marty Turco’s 2010-11 season was nothing to write home about, the 36-year old goaltender believes he can still play in the NHL and is keeping his options open. Turco left the Dallas Stars organization last summer to join the Chicago Blackhawks in hope of a shot at the Stanley Cup. Instead, Turco posted career worsts in goals against average and save percentage before relinquishing the number one job to rookie Corey Crawford.

The three time NHL All-Star hopes that he can catch on with a team. Turco told ESPN Chicago that he’s got something left:

“I want to play some more. I still think I can play in this league. I’m not ready for plans after hockey just yet.”

It’s hard to believe that Turco will get another shot at a number one job in the NHL, but it’s not too far fetched to envision him taking on a backup/mentor role with a club looking for help. The only problem is finding a team that’s in need of another goaltender. There’s always the Canadian National Team route, though. Curtis Joseph parlayed a strong National Team performance into another shot in the NHL in 2008.

Best of luck, Turco.
