HTC reveals new Desire handsets for Taiwan

HTC Desire 501 + 700

Desires 300, 501, 601 and 700 fill out HTC's entry-level and mid-range lineup

HTC has today expanded its mid-range and budget portfolio for its home market of Taiwan, announcing the HTC Desire 300, 501, 601 dual-SIM and 700 dual-SIM. We've already become acquainted with the Desire 300 and 601, recently introduced in Europe as single-SIM phones, but the 501 and 700 appear to be new members of the Desire family.

The Desire 501 combines old and new HTC design language, with what appears to be HTC Sense 4, an old-style three-button setup and an HTC One-like earpiece. Specs include a 1.15GHz dual-core CPU, a 4.3-inch WVGA(800x480) display, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage, expandable via microSD. There's also an 8-megapixel camera with HTC ImageChip support, and HSPA data speeds of up to 14.4Mbps.

The dual-SIM Desire 700 bumps the screen size up to 5 inches, but with a relatively low-res qHD (960x540) resolution panel. It's got a quad-core 1.2GHz processor and the newer HTC Sense 5 UI, with the same amount of RAM and storage as the 501. Like that phone it also has an 8-megapixel camera, but with HTC Zoe, video highlights and all the other camera tricks you'd expect from a Sense 5 handset. Desire 700 buyers also benefit from HTC's BoomSound front-facing speakers, originally introduced on the HTC One.

The Desire 700 will sell for NT$13,900 (just under $470), while the Desire 501 will cost NT$9,900 ($334.) Desires 601 and 300 are priced at NT$10,900 ($370) and NT$7,900 ($267) respectively.
