Samsung AMOLED tablet rumors resurface with the Galaxy Tab S moniker

Samsung

We've heard rumors for some time suggesting Samsung was in the process of developing high-resolution AMOLED displays for its tablets and today we're hearing similar information accompanied by a name. According to the folks at SamMobile, the Galaxy Tab S will be packing a 2560x1600 AMOLED display, an Exynos 5 Octa CPU and the fingerprint scanner seen in the Galaxy S5.

Also sitting with previous rumors is that the purported Galaxy Tab S will come in two sizes 8.4- and 10.5-inches. The fingerprint scanner is said to be embedded in the home button as on the Galaxy S5 and will pack the same feature set as on the phone, too. Other purported specs are 3GB of RAM, an 8MP rear camera and an IR Blaster. It's said to resemble the Galaxy Tab 4 line and run Android 4.4.2 KitKat as with Samsung's other current devices.

SamMobile's tipsters also claim that cellular versions of the tablet have been dropped for now and that it will come in white and grey. Beyond the usual rumor disclaimers, we should also consider where a tablet such as this would sit in Samsung's lineup. At CES the Galaxy Tab Pro was introduced as a premium offering, and aside from a few apparent hardware differences it's tough to see where the Galaxy Tab S would slot in.
